Why should you visit Paris?… seven reasons

When traveling, you accumulate experiences and unforgettable moments that will always be with you and that will make you learn a lot as a person. Knowing different places and people is a pleasant way of enjoying life.

If you like thinking this way and are planning your next travel, Paris is one of the places that must be on your list.

Eiffel Tower

Paris is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, it’s know as “the city of love” and is one of the places that you have to visit as soon as you get a chance.

Maybe you do not want to go because there is a lot of advertising about traveling to Paris which have exaggerated the way this magnificent city is described. The truth is that Paris is a classic, with all its historical buildings, the imposing Eiffel Tower, the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Arc of Triumph, the Sena River, the Elysian Fields, and its streets full of itinerant artists. Only by staying there you can understand why a lot of artists occupy the streets of Paris as inspiration for their great artworks.

  1. – The Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower is an iron construction about 300 meters tall (985 ft) that was created for the Universal Exposition of Paris in 1889. Currently constitutes the most representative symbol of Paris and France. Its design was created by Gustave Eiffel, and the construction took a little bit more than two years and the collaboration of 250 workers. Initially, the tower was the subject of controversy: the artists of that time considered that it was a monstrosity and, given its low profitability at the end of the exhibition, the idea of destroy it was planted in different occasions. At the beginning of XX century, with the advent of world wars, the authorities found its usefulness as a broadcast antenna and with this they would receive messages that helped to the Allies in a decisive way. On these days, and thanks to the boom of Paris as an international tourist destiny, the Eiffel Tower is the most visited monument of the world with more than 7 millions of visitors per year [1].

The incredible view on the top of the Tower is beautiful enough to feel satisfied about travel there without matter where the place that you come from. By day or night, the view is magnificent, its metallic colors and its design are impregnated in the skin, and only being there you can understand why it is the symbol of the city.

  1. – The Notre Dame Cathedral

Built between 1163 and 1245 in the “Île de la Cité” (City Island), the Notre Dame Cathedral of Paris is one of the oldest gothic cathedrals of the world. Its name means “Our Lady” and its dedicated to the Virgin Mary. In Notre Dame there have been important events, among which it would be worth noting the coronation of Napoleon Bonaparte, the beatification of Joan of Arc, and the coronation of Enrique VI of England.

Notre Dame has two towers about 69 meters tall on its facade. Accessing the top of the towers, in addition to appreciating the fantastic views, you can visit the bell tower where the mythical Hunchback of Notre Dame lived and see closely the multiple gargoyles that are there [1].

  1. – The Arc of Triumph

The Arc of Triumph is, along with the Eiffel Tower, the most representative monument of Paris. With dimensions of 50 meter tall, width of 45 meters and depth of 22 meters, the Arc of Triumph represents the victories of the French army under the orders of Napoleon. The construction of the Arc of Triumph took 30 years: Napoleon ordered its construction in 1806 at the end of the battle of Austerlitz, and the Arc was concluded during the mandate of Louis-Philippe. The architect was Jean-François Chalgrin. The Arc of Triumph has witnessed innumerable historical moments among which we could emphasize: the passage of the mortal remains of Napoleon on December 15 of 1840 and the military parades of the two world wars in 1919 and 1944 [1].

  1. – The Sena River

The Sena River runs through Paris dividing the city into several parts. Along the 13 kilometers of the river there are more than 30 bridges and walkways of all kinds, from the oldest built of stone, to the most sober and recent made of metal [1].

If you like walking, I recommend that you tour the city walking along the river; you can also be in a romantic plan with your partner, on some bridges that cross the river you will see that there are several locks hanging. The legend says that the couple that puts a padlock on the bridge will seal their love forever.

  1. – The Elysian Fields

With a length of almost two kilometers connecting the Arc of Triumph and the Concordia Square (Place de la Concorde), the Elysian Fields (Champs-Élysées) make up the most beautiful and well-known artery of Paris, in addition to one of the most famous avenues in the world. The history of these Fields begins in 1640 with the planting of a great alignment of trees in what would later become the avenue. The name of Champs-Élysées comes from Greek mythology and designated a place equivalent to the Christian Paradise. The avenue is divided into two parts that can be easily differentiated. The lower area, located next to Place de la Concorde, is surrounded by gardens presided over by impressive buildings such as the Palais de la Découverte (Discovery Palace), the Petit Palais (Small Palace) and the Grand Palais (Big Palace). The upper part of the Fields begins at the Charles de Gaulle Square where the magnificent Arc of the Triumph is, and is composed of luxury shops, restaurant, cinemas and some department stores [1].

  1. – Streets full of artists

In the streets of Paris you can find a large number of artists, you will see some of them painting in oil inspired by the magnificent city, others will be taking professional photos, doing mime, singing or dancing. The fact is that the city encourages the artistic side of people and many artists choose this city as their inspiration. Also here you will find several museums where important artworks are exhibited; one of those museums is the famous Louvre Museum.

  1. – Other places to visit

In addition to the aforementioned in Paris you will find various points to visit, for example there is “The Pantheon of Paris” which was the first monument of importance of the French capital. Its construction precedes monuments like the Eiffel Tower and was the first place from which one could see Paris from the heights. It is located in the Latin Quarter, very close to the Luxembourg Gardens, where you can find the tombs of famous people such as Voltaire, Rousseau, Victor Hugo, Marie Curie, Luis Braille, Jean Monnet or Alexander Dumas.

Another point of interest is the Palace of Versailles. Declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO for more than thirty years, the Palace of Versailles is one of the most well-known palaces worldwide, not only because of its imposing architecture and its endless and well-kept gardens, but also because it forms an important part of the history of France [1].

I hope this article help you to know why you should consider Paris as one of your tourist destinations.
